In the State of Oregon, skills training of developmentally disabled adults is facilitated by a brokerage system. Customers may receive training in many different areas of functioning, including living skills, navigating around their local areas, and public transportation. Piles of Shame

At the end of December of 2008, the Portland, Oregon area, where I live, experienced unusual amounts of snow. The whole area was buried. As a person with arthritis, back problems, and recovering from a dangerous leg wound, I wasn’t able to get around very well. (more…)

Staring Still Alive and Well

Well, it’s not well, really. It’s sick.

I suppose it’s human nature for people to do a little staring at people who look different than the usual. Whether you’re sitting in a wheelchair or have some visible evidence of your disability, there will always be people who stare. At one time I thought people had figured out how rude and unkind it is, but it still happens. (more…)
